Samantha Yates is the Secretary General of the Global Water Leaders Group, a non-profit organisation which aims to create a better story for water. Samantha was appointed to this role at the inception of the Global Water Leaders Group in January 2013. In this role, she coordinates a network of thousands of water and wastewater utility CEOs and Water Ministers from around one hundred countries. She is also the Editor of Water Leader magazine for which she spearheads the primary research into various aspects of the value of urban water and wastewater services and reports on the latest utility performance turnarounds.

Prior to this, Samantha worked in various research and consultancy roles including with the Group's Publishing and Events Partner – Global Water Intelligence. Samantha also has a strong and diverse background in academic research into environmental communications to increase political engagement of urban communities during the Millennium Drought in Australia's Murray-Darling Basin, and also the adoption and usage efficiency of household-level environmental technologies in the UK. Samantha has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Science in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford.
