In her current role at Barefoot College she leads an award winning International Social Enterprise that has, for 43 years modelled itself, on the life style and work style of Mahatma Gandhi. Her focus on human centric design have allowed her to heighten impact for Barefoot College's beneficiaries and expand operations within her tenure to more than 80 Countries in the Global South. Meagan's personal dedication to diversity and inclusion have allowed her to effect a deep organisational shift from a Founder driven organisation towards a more robust sustainable organisational ecosystem, fostering innovation and risk taking poised for meeting future challenges. Committed to solutions that are designed by and for the rural poor themselves.
Albana Ilo received the M.Sc. degree in power engineering from the University of Tirana, Albanian in 1985 and the Ph.D. in power engineering from the Vienna University of Technology, Austria in 1998. After completing their education, Dr. Ilo was with Siemens AG Austria, where she has successfully established the Distribution Network Analyses topic at the Development Centre Europe. She worked successfully as an expert in many research, development and implementation projects in distribution and transmission area, and was therefore promoted to Principal Key Expert Consultant. Since October 2013, is she with TU Wien, Austria, where she invented the LINK-paradigm. She is the founder of Powersys-LINK and is developing and promoting the LINK-solution. In addition, Albana Ilo was increasingly as an independent expert reviewer near the EU commission, energy sector and contributes in different ETIP SNET working groups
André Faaij is appointed as Academic Director Energy Academy Europe and Distinguished Professor Energy System Analysis at Groningen University. Prior to this position he was Professor and scientific director of the Copernicus Institute of Utrecht University.
His research covers, amongst others, bio-based economy, carbon capture and storage, renewable energy, alternative transport fuels, energy system & scenario analysis, technological learning and energy policies.
He works as an advisor for governments, the EC, IEA, the UN system, GEF, OECD, WEF, WEC, the energy sector & industry, NGO's, etc. He contributed to various IPCC reports, the World and Global Energy Assessment and IEA's World Energy Outlook. Furthermore he was appointed Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and awarded the Linneborn Prize for outstanding contributions to the development of energy from biomass.
He published over 600 titles in scientific journals, reports, books and proceedings, qualifies as 'highly cited researcher' (top 1% of research field) by criteria of Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science and is frequently lecturing across the globe.
Florian has started his professional career with a German Diploma in architecture at the University of Applied Science in Hamburg, Germany; followed by a three-year work period oversees which took place at Thompson, Ventulett& Stainback architects in Atlanta GA., USA.
After returning to Germany Florian took over the family architecture business which was founded by his father in 1957.
Furthermore, Florian acquired qualifications in the field of architecture and Development for private estates and retail buildings, with a focus on commercial real estate and restorations. Florian has been the owner and CEO of a well-known and profitable architecture Buero in Hamburg, and has been a successful developer for years.
In addition to his existing résumé as Climate Architect, Florian became a Feng-Shui consultant, which is directly linked to environmental design.
Within his career Florian pursued to connect architecture and environment in order to create efficient economic solutions to solve environmental issues which we face nowadays.
Dr. Elsarrag is a Director - Research and Development- at the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development. He has more than 25 years of experience in higher education and building industry, gained through his work in the Middle East
and Europe. In additional to his work as a consultant, he continues to be active in scientific research in buildings and energy.
Dr. Elsarrag has developed sustainability standards to the Gulf Region including unique applications such as Air-Conditioned Stadiums and Railways networks and stations.
Dr. Elsarrag has trained more than 4000 professionals, from more than 80 organisations, for Green Buildings certification from all over the world.
He also delivered hundreds of speeches and invited lectures and remains active in academic and scientific community.
He published his research in reputed institutions and journals with more than 12 patents. He has specialist expertise in sustainable developments, energy efficiency, energy modelling and building services. He is the managing editor of the International Journal of the Sustainable Built Environment.
